Provider Trainings

SUD treatment and prevention providers and CMHSP contractors must ensure staff receive training upon hire and ongoing refreshers on the topics outlined in the MSHN regional training grid.

MSHN Regional Training

MSHN supports regional trainings and will announce those as they are available.  Additionally, MSHN offers opportunities to obtain MCBAP eligible CEUs via the quarterly SUD provider meetings.  Trainings will be communicated through the   SUD Constant Contact e-newsletter and on the Calendar of Events. Materials from previous MSHN trainings for the SUD Provider Network are available below:

Other Training Resources

There are a variety of training resources available locally or online:

  • Michigan Department of Health and Human Services offers a variety of trainings and resources on Health Equity, Implicit Bias, Stigma, and Antiracism.  There are trainings focused on mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Community Mental Health Association of Michigan offers comprehensive, affordable and convenient education for board members, administrators, and staff.  Educational topics are selected to increase awareness, knowledge, and skills related to mental illness, developmental disability, substance use disorders and veterans services. CMHAM holds several system-wide conferences, numerous training seminars, networking meetings, and regional educational events throughout the state.  
  • Improving MI Practices offers a wide variety of credit-bearing moderated online courses and online supplements to traditional training for Michigan behavioral health professionals. Use the menus below to find the practice area or population you’d like to enter.  If you wish to develop in-house trainings, we encourage you to subscribe to the State Training Guidelines Workgroup page for a list of training guidelines by topic.  
  • The Prevention Network provides training on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) prevention and all 83 Michigan counties. Trainings offered qualify for MCBAP credit for CPS and CPC certifications (not for treatment professionals).
  • SAMHSA Practitioner Training offers tools, training, and technical assistance to practitioners in the fields of mental health and substance use disorders.
  • The National Council offers webinars on key mental health and addictions topics, followed by meaningful Q&A with webinar participants.  Webinars are offered in a variety of tracks: Addiction Disorders, Clinical Practice Improvement, Workforce Development, Compliance, Integration, Health Reform & Other Delivery/Payment System Changes, Trauma-informed Behavioral Health, Health IT & Treatment Technologies.
